Worcestershire Literary Festival

  • Posted on June 28, 2011 at 8:58 am

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of speaking at the Worcestershire Literary Festival.  It was especially exciting to travel to Worcester because I studied English Literature at the university there.

The lovely venue had sweeping steps, grand columns and fine portraits – very fitting for my talk about Jane Austen.

The audience was lovely and there were plenty of questions afterwards.

It was then on to Waterstone’s to sign some books.  I was made so welcome by the staff there (thank you, lovely Cara!) and I have never seen so many of my books together before!

My books were in very good company too with Fiona Walker, Lucy Worsley and Dom Joly already having signed copies on display.

It was a lovely day and a real pleasure to meet Glenn and Angela James who run G & A Presents.  If you’re in the Worcester area, take a look at their website.  They have some fabulous events planned including a Gothic & Horror Festival.  Wish I lived closer!

As seen on TV!

What a strange experience it is to see yourself on television!  This week, I appeared on Channel 5′s The Vanessa Show talking about whether romance is dead (if it is, I’m out of a job!)  It was a heart-racing experience being in front of all those cameras.  I’ve only ever done radio before!  But I’m glad I did it.  It was a lot of fun and I really like my ‘TV hair’ even though hubby didn’t recognise me when I came home!

Here I am in make-up – just look at those curls!

And here I am on the set with fellow guest, Wayne Sleep:

Then it was time to swap roles when I joined the queue to meet another author at a book signing – adventurer, Bear Gylls.  Boy – if I get a queue like his for my upcoming book signing in Worcester, I’ll miss my train home!

Here I am all star-struck!

Storytime with the Hens!

They say never work with animals but we couldn’t resist putting this little video together with the hens!  I hope you enjoy it.  And don’t forget that there’s a fab promotional offer to buy The Perfect Hero and A Weekend with Mr Darcy on Kindle this week.  I’m also appearing on The Vanessa Show tomorrow talking about all things romantic, and speaking at the Worcestershire Literary Festival this Saturday.  It’s going to be quite a week!

Four gorgeous heroes for a fiver!

For a limited time, you can buy The Perfect Hero on Kindle for just £1.99!  And A Weekend with Mr Darcy is only £2.99.  So much love and romance and so many heroes to enjoy for less than a fiver!  Go on – treat yourself!

Writer Top Tens

  • Posted on June 13, 2011 at 8:50 am

At long last, I have some new Writer Top Tens for you! The very lovely Ruth Saberton and Polly Williams reveal their own personal favourite things just in time for their new summer releases, Ellie Andrews has Second Thoughts and It Happened One Summer. I, for one, can’t wait to read them.

A busy week ahead of us – I’ll be filming for Channel 5′s The Vanessa Show tomorrow to be shown on Wednesday’s programme.  Then it’s more house-hunting as we’ve just lost a lovely cottage we’d fallen in love with.  Keep your fingers crossed for us – we’ve just sold ours and I don’t fancy being a bag lady with a spaniel and hens in tow!

Tea at Enid Blyton’s!

  • Posted on June 6, 2011 at 8:48 am

I have to say that the last few days have been pretty stressful what with preparing our house to sell and viewing properties ourselves and putting in offers!  But I managed to find time for a tranquil afternoon out with my lovely writer friend, Ruth Saberton.  Ruth had just been on The Vanessa Show and she was giving me a few tips for my appearance which is going to be broadcast on Wednesday 15th June.  Then we took off in her car with the roof down to enjoy the sunny June weather.  Our destination was somewhere very special: Old Thatch - the one-time home of author, Enid Blyton.

It’s always a strange feeling to tread in the footsteps of a literary idol.  Looking around the garden, I wondered if Enid had a favourite spot where she would sit and write.

It was Enid Blyton who first got me excited about stories and I devoured The Famous Five books.  But it was obvious very early on that I was destined to write romances because I always wanted Anne to fall in love in the summer holidays!

And what an amazing experience it was to have tea and cake in Enid Blyton’s garden!

We then strolled down to the Thames where there was a family of geese with their gorgeous goslings.  It was a perfect afternoon and one we’ll have to repeat again very soon!
